Restoration

Thornfield Mill Restoration

Restoration of a 19th-century textile mill, preserving its industrial character while converting the structure into a fully operational commercial events venue.

Commercial

$115,000 USD

Completed in 7 Months

Problem

The mill had been derelict for over 20 years. Structural deterioration, water ingress, and the loss of original brick and timber detailing meant the building was at serious risk of being condemned before the client acquired it for redevelopment.

Our Approach

We worked alongside a structural engineer and heritage consultant to develop a phased restoration plan. Original brickwork was repointed using matched lime mortar, exposed timber beams were treated and reinforced, and the roof was fully stripped and relaid with reclaimed slate to meet conservation guidelines.

Solution

The mill has been successfully transformed into a sought-after events space that retains its authentic industrial character. The project received a regional heritage commendation and was fully booked within two months of the venue opening to the public.
